I’m calling it – Baby Brain is a thing – a real life condition. It’s not just something new mother’s ‘claim’ to have so they can blame every mistake, clumsy moment or emotional tantrum on, it is an ACTUAL condition. I swear it!
I say this because it is the only way I can rationalize my behavior in the past 4.5 months. As a second time Mum I thought I had it all down pat – my original approach being ‘No worries I’ve got this’! Well I soon realized ‘I don’t got this’! I am far from ‘getting this’!
With a five year gap between my boys it is safe to say I had forgotten how intense the sleepless nights were, how each day was filled with feeding, poopy nappies more feeding and more poopy nappies. Quite frankly I’d forgotten how much Baby Brain affects you.
See Baby Brain can be sneaky – one moment you think you are handling things well, you are lucky enough to have had 4 hours sleep within a 24 hour period yet you are still able to function as a semi conscious parent, then BAM you are struck with Baby Brain and you are down and out!
Rewind to a couple of months back when I was struck hard with Baby Brain – I had survived a whole day with minimal sleep, an unsettled baby who needed to be with me every second of that day and an active 5 year old who wanted to chat and play, and I was fine, I juggled it all without cracking it and I felt good. I had managed to clean the house, and had just finished cleaning the kitchen and had laid out all the sterilized baby items ready to put them away and then it was bedtime for me. I was thinking – ‘see this isn’t so hard’.
I noticed I hadn’t had the chance to unpack my little treat that I had purchased for myself – the delicate little tea set that I so foolishly saw myself using during my 2 seconds of me time throughout my day, because you know tea is about as exciting as my drinks get these days. So I unpack this tea set and then BAM – Baby Brain hit! I dropped my tea set and it shattered into a zillion tiny pieces – all over the kitchen and dining area and all over the sterilized baby items. And I cried – I burst into tears like a tantrum throwing 2 year old. Not because I now had to re-clean the whole kitchen and dining area to make sure every little piece was vacuumed and removed, not because I now had to rewash and re-sterilize the baby items, not because I would now have to wait another hour or so before going back to bed, but because I broke my brand new tea set. Yes folks I was irrationally crying because of the untimely demise of my tea set.
So in my defense – Baby Brain is a thing. A real life condition. And I am sticking to that!
Has anyone else been struck down with a severe case of Baby Brain?
-xo- Jessica
Oh I have killer pregnancy brain at the moment. So far I’ve left my keys in the car after parking at work (luckily I remembered halfway out of the carpark!) and forgotten to invite my boss to an important meeting, as well as about 5 million other little things I can’t remember now!
I’m sure I will suffer from baby brain once my little one is here in a couple of months!
(And crying over breaking a new teapot is totally something I would do! I’d say that it’s normal but I’m finding my new definition of ‘normal’ is actually anything but!!)

Congratulations Lauren on the new little on on the way! Yes ‘normal’ is definitely redefined when you become a parent – pretty much anything goes. haha Oh I remember ‘Pregnancy Brain’ – the klutziness was horrible! I am normally a big klutz so it was very frustrating becoming an even bigger klutz. 😉 Hoping you only get a mild dose of Baby Brain! x

Totally agree baby brain is a “thing”. Whether it’s a thing thing or just the chaotic combination of sleep deprivation and having a tiny human taking up all your energy and brain space.
I had a day recently where I totally I had everything together. Dropped son at school on time, was totally organised, I was running some errands…got half way home and realised I’d gotten cash out at the supermarket and had absolutely no memory of what I did with the note after it was handed to me. No. Memory. I back tracked but never recovered where I’d lost/dropped/misplaced it. *palm face*. Stupid brain.

Oh geez Rachel! I definitely would have burst into tears about that one! Baby Brain always hits when you think you have everything under control – almost like it serves as a reality check of some sort!

I don’t think you ever kid rid of Baby Brain – I think with each child that comes along it only gets worse! LOL
That sounds like something I did recently – I bought myself some probiotics and I took special care to transport it home in a cooler bag and put it straight in the fridge when I got home. That night I took it before bed – and I put it away – in the cupboard ABOVE the fridge – by the time I went looking for it the next evening it was too late – and it took me ages to find it too! Stupid Baby Brain!

Baby brain is totally a real thing! When I was pregnant I couldn’t remember anything! I normally have a really good memory. Your poor tea set, I would cry too if that was me xx

The first 6 months after my 2nd bub I was a basket case – I couldn’t remember my name some days! I’d routinely go out with one leg shaved, or mascara on only one eye. My worst moment was leaving a bag of shopping in the car for 2 days (in summer) which had some chicken breast inside. I can still smell it, it was the stuff of nightmares!

Oh geez I can almost smell it too! It is something I would do these days! My memory is so bad – I need to set alarms to remind me to do the simplest of things! Like – don’t forget to eat lunch. Don’t forget to drink enough water.

Baby brain is totally a thing! I swear I still get it and my bub is almost 9 months! Its the hormones and the lack of sleep and my mind on everything else. Once when I was pregnant I turned up to work with two different shoes on. I didnt even notice! I had to go buy a new pair 🙂

I got ‘baby brain’ after giving birth! I would do the silliest things (like put nail varnish remover on a cotton pad…to take my eye make up off – luckily I realised before it was too late!) and could not think about anything that required any ‘thought’, if that makes sense? It’s tough having ‘baby brain’! #PicknMix

Oh bless you! I don;t think I can blame baby brain anymore now that mine are 9 and almost 11 (next week eek!) but I well remember when they were small and standing in a room for ten minutes trying to work out what I’d come in for, or trying to enter my pin number on the card machine then realising I’d put my tesco point card in! Being tired seriously messes with your head, but eventually they start to sleep and so do you.

Hahahaha that’s where I am at now Stevie – I will literally walk into a room and stand there for ages trying to figure out why I walked in and then getting frustrated because for the life of me I have no clue why! And I can’t really blame sleep deprivation because my 5 month old started sleeping through the night at 9 weeks old – so it HAS to be Baby Brain – either than or pregnancy HAS really killed off some of my brain cells! haha
My pleasure Stevie! I am so happy to have found your Link Up. I will be visiting weekly.

Oh I completely relate to that! My memory has never been the same since having children – especially when it comes to remembering where my “safe hiding places” are – let’s just say they are REALLY safe because I never find them again! haha Thanks for having me at #SundayStars 😀
